Watching the Wild Boy Grow

a fairly up to date description of our favorite lil man

Saturday, June 26, 2004

Hey there.
a lot of things have happened this week so I'll try to bring you up to date.
The trip to the beach was fun, if you look at Spencer's album you will see that his favorite actitivity seemed to be eating sand.
It would be nice to be so easily pleased.
It was really nice to get away from the city, feel the fresh air, and be humbled by the massive size of the ocean.
Spencer also enjoyed the seagulls, which he was certain were his beloved duckies, and had no problem chasing down. With him and our picnic lunches we were quite popular as I am sure you can guess.
Spencer also learned how to clap this week! He had been occasionally meeting the two hands together, but this week he made full contact, and loves to clap in admiration to all of his favorite things. It's really something to see that look of wonder and pride on his little face when he realizes that he has learned something new, something that mama and daddy can do.It's now when I wish that I had a video recorder!
Also learned was the heart stopping ( mama's heart that is ) actitvity of climbing. He had always tried to climb in the bath tub, but this week he made it on top of his toy box, rearranged the ball sitting on top of the coffee table he was next to, and leaned foward a bit to make sure that all his movin and groovin was not in vain.
Like I said, a heart attack for Mama, but I am proud of him. When he is not in his highchair, stroller, or playpin (i.e. prisons)
he is cruising
around to all pieces of furniture, the boy NEVER stops.
And just like with the seagulls at the beach, he approaches all animals with a naive interest that is both exciting and funny.
We keep abn eye out on him and all meeting so far have been friendly ones.
okay senor spencer needs a little snack as does mama.
more later i'm sure, for the possibiltiy of something getting left out is high.
ciao for now

I also wanted to mention a few things.
Spencer did some pretty neat things this week.
Gave an oak leaf to a very cute little GIRL baby.VERY CUTE.
Had his first "swim" in a quentiasential(sp) blow up baby pool.
HE LOVED IT.
When I get them back, I will post pictures.
Has decided that bath time only need to be about say 2.5 minutes because it's even more fun to watch the water slip down the drain, than it is to sit for 30 seconds so that mama can wash his hair...( AHEM!)( any ideas that you might have for this, let me know)
Pet a very fat, very black, very friendly with children, cat.
( or more like "gently pounded on him and tugged at his ears")
It was his first time and he was very pleased.
Anywho, there's more, butI have much to do.
take care all!

Well tommorrow is Father's day, so I thought that I would let you in on a little bit about the realtionship between Chris and Spencer.
To start off with, I'm pretty sure that Spencer believes that his Daddy did in fact hang the moon, the stars, and maybe had a little bit to do with the general layout of both our Sun and universe.
I guess you could say that Spencer likes his Daddy, just a bit. He stayed by his Mama's side while he was inside, keeping up with numerous drives to the doctors, numersous drives to the Goodwill to by ANOTHER size larger clothing item, and many drives to the store for inumerial cravings.Despite that last bit, he always made sure that Mama lived on something besides donuts, which at times, Mama was sure she could have done.
He was there when Spencer came into this world and dealt with the woman once called Jennifer that had morphed into the infamous beast that goes only by the name: "JUSTGIVEMEANEPIDURALNOW!" and yes; that is all one word. One very long, very loud, word.
He gave Spencer his first bath, and to this date, the picture of this event, with one very tired, proud, daddy cradeling a wee baby beneath a water faucet is my favorite. Okay, one of my top 3 favorites, but I digress.
From the very beginning, these two have been like two peas in a pod. Many nights of colic were soothed and maintained by Daddy, early diapers ( and you know the EARLY diapers...AHEM) changed, many silly songs that mama seemed to consider daily language, quickly learned and repeated.
Always quick to pick him out from his prison ( play pen, grocery cart, crib ) he plays with him, and from many lessons learned and book passages read, on his level, or as much as we adults understand. At work, a collection of photos in his waiter book to show off, or possibly ( and I'm not sure on this one, but I know that when things get tough I do this) just to take a quick gaze at and remind him of this wonderful, funny, sometimes odd, sometimes cranky, food throwing, duck loving, miracle that we some how are lucky enough to call our son.
And there is no doubting that. NONE what so ever, Chris Smith LOVES his baby boy almost as much as Spencer loves daddy.
Many things lie ahead of us, but with that kind of love, he will always deserve a most happy fathers day.
oxox
We love you Chris/Daddy.
Happy Father's Day.

The computer, knock on semuliated wood grain, is working, at least it was until I announced it. Ahh well I will try and get a few little things about the one the only the cutie pahtootie Spencer Louis Kautt Smith.
He is a learning machine!! Pointing at EVERYTHING! When
Mama says " Yes that's Saturn on your nightlight!" he turns
his head,looks
at either one of his walls and there it is to point at! This shocked me the first time, but now is a part of the regular nightly routine. And it's hard to say weither or not sleepy time has gotten easier now that he is older. On the one hand he is SOOOOO busy during the day ( the fave game at the moment? "I'mmmaaa gonnnaaaa get youuuu!") that he tires himself
out by bedtime, but then again he wants to stay up and learn so much that it's often a small battle. But any battle is worth it when you think of that smiling face and that SUPER cute little hiney crawling at break-neck speed down the hallway, not to mention a squeal that I'm sure will someday break a glass.
He is also quite farmilar with turning mama or daddy's hand over dilbertly putting his sippy cup into our hands then pointing to desired beverage.
ahem.
chris and I are going to go ahead and buy tuxes, since it will give us more money to spend on his Lordship and less to put into the butler/maid outfit weekly rental jar.
AHEM.
His communication skills are growing
everyday as well, included are dah (long a ) for dog, duck almost completly, the beginnings to "Big Bird " which sounds like Bih Buh, daddy of coourse, and I think that he has mastered diaper, but nobody seems to go along with me. Ahh well I guess that you have to be the one who changes most of them to understand. ( no disrespect for daddy of course) and also "din din" for dinner.
I am sure that I am leaving out something but I am trying to comply with the computer time I have alloted. I can always add more. :)
Also, and this would probably have to be my favorite, ( like I have one really ...) but he can give eskimo kisses, stopping mid nurse, or game, to simply cuddle up to myself or chris. ohh what a wonderful, beautiful feeling, that warm little nose, plump little cheeks and that somehow always sweet babybreath.
a smile always follows and now that he is more cordniated with his hands he has even grabbed OUR cheeks from time to time.ohh my heart just sits puzzled at this love that I feel! And as I am sure some of you have seen his hair is SOOOOO long. with those curls and a smile he sometimes looks like a little angel.
Not that he dosen't have the ability to act like a little devil.
and that lil devil has arisen from his nap so I must bid you adieu.
more later.
