Watching the Wild Boy Grow

a fairly up to date description of our favorite lil man

Ohhhh I know a long long time.
Well we have had a busy winter, unfortunately a lot of spent with colds that were a little more diblitating than usual. Spencer has offically had his first ( and I would like to think last ) ear infection. It was a hard one to pin down, but when he carried on for a little over 2 and half hours and could not be consoled by
1) Thomas the Tank Engine/moo juice
2) Mama
3) Daddy
4) ANYTHING!!!
We took him in for a checkup and it only took the doctor one quick glance to see that his little ear was indeed quite infected. It broke our hearts of course, thinking that we could have done something sooner, but so often, children have all the symptoms of an earache, but no infection to be seen. Luckily, after his first dose of penicillin, he was all smiles and all sleepy. Now back to the road to the healthy healthy healthy boy I am so used to. It was; of course, in conjucture with Chris and I having pretty nasty colds ourselves. But on to the fun stuff. One of which has to do with this sore thumb.
Spencer is addicted to his bright pink medication. When I tell him that he has to take it, he claps and says "edicine!" Weird. But I wouldn't trade it for the oppisite. I just hate to think when the 10 days is up.( heh )
He is also mr.pointer/namer. ( cheek, cheek, chin, eye, ears, cheek) Yes the cheek is the favorite.
Also included are his "tiny table" ( a little tv tray that he insists on eating at from time to time)
namp-kin,under under under ( the couch, the table, the "bridge" that Chris and I make from our legs, anything really..) various Tommy related objects, etc. He has fallen into the habit of calling cars ( small ones ) "daddy's cooper" or "kinda like cooper" as Chris has a RC Cooper that he likes to look at but does not like to play with. It's a little noisy, a little scary. Tonight he was jumping up and down singing "Quesadiiiilaaaa!" ( as that was his dinner ) and saying "uts up Dawk?" as he was having carrots as well. Yes mama says that rabbits say "Whhhhhaaatt's uppp Doc?". I mean really, what noise do they make?
And on to noises, mooing, meowing, barking, and VRRROOOMMM are favorites. He also likes to insist that you join along as well. Tonight as he was pushing one of his cars he looked at me and said "Say...say!" After a questioning look which I am sure was too long for his paitence he said "Say Vrrroooommmm!" I of course complied. I comply with singing "Down by the Docks" and "Boo Boo Choo" more than five times a day as well, but I think in the end, no matter how hoarse I may be, that it's helping him out with communication, an activity that he seems to enjoy learning.
He is much more vocal now, about his wants and needs, and understands simple questions/directions. Just today we had a "conversation" about throwing food on the floor and at dinner, he was picking up whatever poor morsel he had choosen to be done with and placing it back on the aforementioned "tiny table". In a lot of mannerisms I can see the dreaded "Terrible Two's" coming up and Chris and myself are trying to adjust. But with the ability to communicate I think it will be easier? maybe? hopefully.
Spencer is also trying to grasp the counting mystery. He can count up to three of his ducks on the bathtub's edge, ( where he sets them very orderly, having them kiss each other, and talk with each other ) can count three, and then justs wants to joyfully knock them into the bath water. Bathwater. Is it not the most thirst quenching beverage on earth? While mastering "all full" and "all gone" with various size cups, the above discovery was made. So far nothing bad, he's losing interest in it, as he looks forward to taking a shower or trying to stand up in the bath, much to his mother's shagrin. ( the latter that is ) Oh that reminds me another wonderful " "
" Sit down on your bottom " he reapeats this as a sort of mantra while he stands in the tub or the couch, and tells various stuffed animals to also do the same. Guess where he got it from?
And sometimes it works with it's intended target!
It also looks like potty training time is soon, as he is showing all the signs that I will spare you from. But one interesting thing his book " Once Upon A Potty" is really the only full length "story" he enjoys. Ahhhh another hill to climb. Okay I will close this now as I could ramble forever about how my little man is changing, challenging us, and bringing us more laughs than we could ever imagine. But as I mentioned before mama has a bit of a cold right now and needs to get some rest.
I promice to keep a little more updated in the saga that is Spencer.
take care.
